1. One of the objectives of GKK is to help needy Government servants especially those belonging to the lower income group, by providing to their dependants, opportunity of gainful work, so that they might be able to supplement the income of their family and at the same time they may also gain skill and experience in order to pursue a career elsewhere. GKK is thus expected to be a stepping stone for such dependants and there is no intention to provide them with any regular employment. This position has been upheld even by the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
2. It is in the above background, the workers in GKK are being engaged for a maximum period of three years. There is no rigid criteria as to the age and qualifications for their engagement. But keeping in view the requirement of the post, applicants possessing suitable qualifications are given preference.
3. However, due to exigencies of work, some GKK workers were allowed to work for longer periods. Pursuant to the judgement of Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 26.7.94, all the old workers who are below the age of 55 years and have worked with GKK for more than 20 years as on 1.7.94 are, subject ot suitability, being retained in the service of GKK and relieved as and when they attain the age of 55 years, while for all those workers who are below the age of 55 years and have worked with GKK for a period ranging between 10 years and 20 years, efforts have been/are being made for their absorption in the available regular jobs in various offices of Govt. of India keeping in view their educational qualifications, age and eligibility.
